On Tuesday July 16, 2024, I was invited to be a part of a unique event that the Joliet Slammers were hosting. It was a special whiskey tasting for Keeper’s Heart Irish American Whiskey by O’Shaughnessy Distilling Company located in Minneapolis, MN. Joel Sigel, the Food and Beverage Director for the Joliet Slammers, asked me to prepare a three course meal to accompany the whiskeys that were being featured.Â
The big highlight of the night was the Global Brand Ambassador from Ireland, Ger Garland, was in attendance leading the tasting of each of the four whiskeys. It was an incredible experience to hear him explain the origin of each of the whiskeys, and the story behind the Keeper’s Heart brand.
The appetizer course, I prepared smoked cream cheese with artisan crackers, and bacon wrapped onion rings. The main course was a trio of brisket, chicken thighs, and pork tenderloin accompanied by a side of smoked Brussels sprouts. The dessert was an old Wyler family recipe of Louisiana crunch cake, accompanied by slices of raspberry donut cheesecake.Â
At the beginning of each course I had the opportunity to introduce each dish to the guests that were in attendance. I also had the opportunity to be introduced to Ger Garland and have a great conversation with him about the food and the whiskey, and received a signed bottle as a gift for being a part of the event.Â
It was quite a night to remember.
